Lens records the screen content you select and optional audio and webcam content. Recording, video compression, trimming, and photo compression run locally on your Mac. Lens does not upload your recordings or library media to a Lens server. There is no Lens account, advertising, tracking, or automatic analytics service.
Recordings and compressed files are saved to folders you choose. Settings, credit balances, verified purchase identifiers, and photo-analysis results are stored locally. File access uses macOS permission mechanisms. Your Mac, backup provider, or cloud-synced destination can sync files according to its own settings.
Standalone video compression keeps originals by default. If you enable and confirm replacement, Lens moves an original video to recoverable Trash only after verifying a smaller compressed file, and retains its name with the output's .mp4 extension. Recover originals through Finder before emptying Trash.
If you grant Photos access, Lens can read thumbnails, sizes, metadata, and originals to help you find large media and compress selected supported items. Replacement requires your confirmation. Replaced originals are managed by Apple Photos in Recently Deleted; recover them before Apple's retention period expires. Lens skips Live Photos, paired photo resources, and animated images to preserve motion and frames.
For originals stored in iCloud Photos, Apple may download them when requested. Apple Photos and iCloud operate under Apple's terms and privacy practices. Lens does not send your library media to us.
You can manage permissions in macOS System Settings. Without a permission, the related feature is unavailable.
Apple processes credit-pack and subscription purchases through the App Store. Lens verifies transactions and stores purchase identifiers locally to prevent duplicate credit grants. We do not receive your payment-card details. Apple provides the developer with App Store sales and performance reports under its own privacy practices.
Lens keeps diagnostic logs locally and redacts names, file paths, URLs, and arbitrary error descriptions from new diagnostic messages. Logs can contain technical information such as app version, macOS version, recording settings, timings, counts, and failure codes. They are not uploaded automatically.
Send Feedback opens a draft in your email application with support information and redacted diagnostic logs in its message body. You can edit the draft and decide whether to send it or attach an exported diagnostic archive. If you contact us, we receive your email address and the message and attachments you choose to send. We use that information to respond and investigate the issue, not for advertising or tracking. Review the message and attachments before sending and avoid including recordings or other personal material unless needed for your request.
You control your local files, Photos library, permissions, and backups through macOS and Apple Photos. You may ask us to delete support correspondence by contacting the address below. We keep support correspondence only as needed to handle the request and related support obligations.
Updates to this policy will appear here with a revised date.
